Ok, this is what I've got,
Event ID 8003
Description
The master browser has recieved a server announcement from computer
*** that belives that it is the master browser for the domain on
transport
NewBT_Tcpip_{199387A3-7196-4d0e-b3b7. The master browser is stopping
or an election is being forced.

I have been watching this for awhile hoping it magically dissapear,
when it didn't i did the M$ search and downloaded their recommended
hotfix 843517. This a.m. i checked the log thinking all would be well
and low and behold i have the same error but its from a different
computer...
what the heck is going on? I can't find another fix for it online....

thoughts?
Thanks
Mandi

Verify the subnet mask on the problem machine is the
same as the the subnet mask on the PDC/PDC emulator.

Browsing can be tricky. The message usually means that some machine can't
see the master browser, so it tries to force an election. That's why Michael
suggests you check the subnet mask on the client.

If it is not a client problem, it gets harder. Is the master browser
multihomed? This is a longstanding browser problem.

Bill, thanks for answering indepth that helps, i'm not really a techie
im just trying to be one.
here's the thing, my server (we only have one in use) is using a
255.255.255.0 subnet while my client machine (who i think should be
getting that number from the server since they are set to auto obtain)
are all showing a 255.0.0.0 the only thing i can think of is that my
dsl is hanging out numbers, the Lan Subnet on it is 255.255.255.0, the
dsl wan, (which i don't think i'm supposed to set) is 255.0.0.0 ssooo
if the dsl is giving out subnet masks, thats probably where my problem
is steming from? i have a call in to the dsl guys, but haven't heard
back from them. does this mean i don't really have a masterbrowser
problem? but a subnet issue?

Because browsing is based on IP subnets, the server and the clients need
to have the same IP subnet mask. Do you have any problems apart from the
browser message in the event log? Perhaps you don't need the browser service
at all?

looks like i found the problem, my dsl router had the wrong subnet
when i first set everything up a couple months ago, it has since been
fixed but i didn't change the info in the dhcp scope, i deleted it
yesterday and reset it, it helped, no more masterbrowser errors since
then and my dns is slowly but surely repopulating its self, this whole
thing started because i wanted to install my virus software from the
server and have the server handle all the rollouts, so hopefully i
will be able to get that going by the end of the day. thanks for all
your help! im gonna keep plugging away at this thing, its amazing what
you can learn.
