Mapping Network Drive From Windows 7 to a Win2k Server

I cannot map a drive to a Win2k Server folder from Windows 7 Ultimate.
(The OS was previously Windows 7 Home Premium and was upgraded to Ultimate.)

The User Name and Password exists on the server and it is the same as the
one on the Windows 7 computer.

The User is a member of the group with rights to the shared folder.
(I have no problems with all the other systems that are running the gamut of
Windows versions)

Initially I couldn't even map to a Windows 2000 computer (not a server) but
was able to after
adding the user specifically to the folder's Sharing->Permissions and
Security
So I did the same on the Win2k Server, but it still didn't work.

When I try to map the error message says I may not have permission etc..

I tried to map the drive directly in the command pompt with Net Use.

In the Windows 7 computer I set:
Local Policies ->Security Options->Network Security: LAN Manager
Authentication level
set to: "Send LM & NTLM, use NTLMv2 session security is negotiated"

Still doesn't work.

Any help would be appreciated.
Let me know if I should post the question elsewhere also.

Thanks.

When using net sue command to map it, do you get system error? If yes,
what's the error code?

Hello Bob,

Thank you for responding.

Unfortunately I did not write down the error number and I am not on site
until later this week.

Local Policies ->Security Options->Network Security: LAN Manager->
Authentication level
is set to: "Send LM & NTLM, use NTLMv2 session security is negotiated"
which is the only way I can map to a regular Win2k computer (not server) but
I can't map to a Win2K Server

For the Win2k server it doesn't even ask for the Username and Password.

If I change to "Send NTLMv2 response only" then when I try to map to the
Server it asks for the Username and Password and tells me the password is
incorrect. So then I try it with Net Use were I can also change or not
specify the domain name (ie just put the username) and it still says the
Password is incorrect.

Furthermore at this setting I can't map to a regular Win2k station.

I will get back with the error messages, but maybe the above will help you
help me.

Thanks.

Hello Bob Lin,

With LAN Manager Authentication level set to: "Send LM & NTLM, use NTLMv2
session security is negotiated"

With Net Use I get System error 1240
"The account is not authorized to log into this station."
If I specify the domain name as the Server, and then the user name:
System error 5. Access denied

With LAN Manager Authentication level set to: "Send NTLMv2 response only"
System error 86 Specified password is not correct
If I specify the domain name as the Server, and then the user name:
System error 5. Access denied

I tried the other Authentication levels also.

The LmCompatibility level in the Registry is already set to 1.
In the Registry I also noticed there was a ControlSet01, ControlSet02, and
the CurrentControlSet
LmCompatibility level were set to 1 for all.

The computer is a new one which came with Windows 7 Home Premium which would
not connect
because you need Professional or Ultimate.

So I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate.

I hope this information helps you help me.

Thanks.

Try this.
Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
Send LM & NTLM responses

Minimum session security for NTLM SSP
Disable Require 128-bit encryption

Where is the setting for 128-bit encryption you mention in your reply?
