Mapping Different IP Address Range

Hi All,

I am having a problem with mapping an IP address with a different
range.

I can do it on one computer and also the Domain Controller.

eg, my domain is set up with iP range 192.123.10.x and in another
office we have 192.123.12.x

Do i need to change a setting to allow a computer to access this other
Ip range?

Not sure what to do.

Thanks

Nbene

What do you mean by map? Do you mean set the IP address as static? Versus
DHCP?

What's the subnet mask? Without knowing that, we don't know if those 2
ranges are on the same subnet. I'm assuming they are not. If the 2 offices
are in different physical locations, that don't have a dedicated link to
each other, you'll need to use VPN to create a secure link between the 2
sites.

Hi John,

Thanks for the reply.

They belong to the same subnet and we do use VPN managed through the
routers.

By Map i mean that i can map to a server\share in another office from
one computer but not another...

i.e. i map \\192.123.11.235\ShareName on my computer and it connects
that share

I think it has to do with a registry setting allowing access to the
other network addresses but i can not remember, then again maybe i am
way off the mark...

Does this info help?

You're describing a NetBIOS name resolution problem.
Do you have WINS installed on a server in your network?

From each office/network, if you click on Start>Run>and enter the server IP
address as so \\192.168.11.235, does it show the shared resources in each
case?
If it does on one network and not on the other, I would suspect the router
is the issue. I don't know what ports need to be open for NetBIOS, but I
would look into that.

Thanks for the info.

Here's a good page on browsing issues with VPN:
