Mapped network drives on storage sever dropped

Hello-
At our school domain we have a Win2003 storage server R2 and XP professional
clients, all fully patched. The storage server randomly drops off the network
and all client machines with mapped drives loose connections and time out or
need a reboot. Netdiag and event logs reveal no issues. It make no difference
if the network drives are mapped via mandatory profiles, or mapped on
individual office machines where the user has local admin rights. A reboot
always fixes the problem. It seems to occur randomly, sometimes afters a few
days, other times a hours after a reboot. I tried KB 297684 without success,
I have looked at KB 908370
(which seems to fit our symptoms but this is not a domain controller) but it
leaves me puzzled. The storage server has no problem browsing out and seeing
other
networked machines and shares when the problem occurs. I am vexed!
TIA,
Scott Schaffer

Hello,

just to be sure, about 297684, did you set it to -1 ?

SP2 of W2K3 may add troubles about the network, double check that you have
the latest driver.
Did you try to disable EnableRSS & EnableTCPA ?

Mathieu-
I went through regedit and set autodisconnect to ffffffff. What does -1 do
to this setting? I also have three servers using Backup Exec to save to
backup-to-disk folders on this storage server and the backups fail nightly
because the folders go offline without any warning. What about KB 936594?
Also, can you tell me more about EnableRSS & EnableTCPA? I have not touched
them.

Thanks so much, you are the only one to offer up any ideas from my posting
this week and a similar one I made last week.

on your server:
start /run / cmd
then net config server /autodisconnect:-1

enableRSS and EnableTCPA issue only appears if you have the Windows 2003
Service pack 2 or the network scalable pack. Do you have the SP2 ?

I do have SP2 installed. Should I uninstall it? After disabling EnableRSS &
EnableTCPA the server still disconnected last night before a backup to disk
operation could be performed.

Thanks again,
Scott

Mathieu-
I have that latest network drivers and I tried everything that was
suggested. I finally uninstalled SP2 and that seems to have done the trick.
There have been several similar postings over the past month about dropped
mapped network drives. I have not had any issues until I installed SP2. I
believe there is an issue in the code. Thanks for your suggestions,

Scott

Great that you get it back working, but only a workaround for now... :'(
