Mapped drives across domains

Hello,
I'm currenlty logged in to my company domain on my laptop but connected to
the client's network which is on a different domain. I have an account for
the client domain also which I use when mapping drives. (I use a script to
map the drives, passing in my username and password for the client domain
each time). The mapped drives show up fine in My Computer but when I try to
access them it takes about 40 seconds to bring up the folder listing. After
that its fine for a while, access is very fast. But if I go back to it after
a couple of minutes or so it again takes another 40 seconds before it gives
me the folder listing.

Any ideas on what I can do to make this go faster?
Thanks,
Amit

Here's one more thing I just found: Every time it takes 40 seconds to
connect, there are two entries made in the System Event log:

The Security System detected an attempted downgrade attack for server
cifs/devdb. The failure code from authentication protocol Kerberos was
"There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon
request.
(0xc000005e)".

and

The Security System could not establish a secured connection with the server
cifs/devdb. No authentication protocol was available.

devdb is the machine on the client's network that I'm trying to connect to.
However, "cifs" does not look familiar.

Thanks,
Amit

CIFS (Common Internet File System) is the file sharing system use by
Windows. It is CIFS which sets up an SMB connection. So the message just
indicates that the connection attempt was made using cifs to server devdb,
and the server would not accept your credentials.

I see, but inspite of that message, I still am able to connect to the
servers - it just takes a long time.

The only way to really find out what is going on would be to monitor the
traffic with a network sniffer. Then you would see exactly what the holdup
was.

Perhaps when Kerberos fails it falls back to NT style authentication.
