mapped drive vs ip address

I've been noticing a real slowdown in the speed that clients can write data
to folders on the server using the mapped drive. Unfortunately, we can't
trace the slowdown to any specific event or change in the system. We moved
to active directory in the last month, so troubleshooting is a real difficult
task. As well, we need to use the mapped drives for our software shares, so
ip addresses aren't feasible.

I've captured the network monitor files (on the server) for 3 different
types of file transfer:

1. mapped network drive using explorer
2. ip address using explorer
3. mapped network drive using total commander

The only option that is slow is the mapped network drive using explorer.

I'm using Win Server 2003 STD (fully updated).

If anybpody has any ideas, or wants to see the capture logs, please don't
hesitate to ask.

Regards, Ron
