I mapped a drive on two identical laptops. One of the
units tries to reestablish the connection every time it
is rebooted. The other unit waits to establish the
connection until dial up networking has established the
connection. How do I get the one unit from trying to
establish the connection as soon as it is rebooted.

Select the Quick Logon option of your Client for Microsoft Networks found in
the Networking section of your Control Panel.

Sounds like you have something at startup on that laptop that is trying to
access that drive, discovering it is unavailable and then giving you that
message. Use MSCONFIG to determine what it is trying to launch from that
drive letter at startup.
