How Many Files Can Have IP Addresses in Them?

I'm trying to track down a potential problem in my RHL 9 system concerning a local
network I'm trying to build. As far as I know, the only places where I can run into
trouble is in the /etc/hosts and /etc/sysconfig/network files. They look fine to me.
Is there some other file I'm overlooking that may not be in agreement with their
contents that would cause a network difficulty. In particular, refer to me post
titled "Grappling with Networks and Bootup/Login" posted in the last 24 hours or so.

Are there some handy commands that would help me isolate difficulties? I know one
problem is that when I do hostname -i a_name on each computer, one responds by
finding the correct ip address for its machine, but other one burps up a message.
