maintain user profiles when changing domains

I am moving a bunch of win2k computers into a new win2k domain. We can not
setup a trust or use any method to migrate users accounts to the new domain.
We will recreate brand new user accounts that match the names on the old
domain, but of course the guid's will be different.

Now our users have many different programs installed, all their favorites,
shortcuts, configurations, backgrounds, etc installed. When you login to a
computer on a different domain, even if you use the same user name, you get
a brand new profile created -- you lose all your settings. I didn't want
everyone to come in Monday morning to what appears to be brand new
computers. And I don't feel like manually rebuilding everyone's system to
the "t".

So I have been experimenting with ms Q314045. It looks promising and
initial test look like settings can be maintained this way. Has anyone
else had any experience with this scenario. Did you use q314045, or did you
use a different method? How did it work for you?

Regards!
Joe
