It's not unlikely you'll be compromised sooner or later with your
aged distro connected to the internet and get a source of
ratware, being blacklisted on any list. Good luck getting your IP
out of those lists again.
Do yourself a big favor and upgrade the box to something recent
or ask someone who can do this for you and keep it updated.
You need to check the logs for problems with mail reception in
any case.
