I've seen this happen if OpsLock (Optimistic Locking) was enabled in the
registry in the machine hosting the share. But so far I haven't been able to
find the article, I'm probably spelling the search wrong because I don't
know how the Reg Key is spelled. I also get buried with database related
articles since that term in commonly used in databases.
Anyway we had the issue pop up with Win98 machines when replacing a NT4
files server with a Win2k file server.

Everything works great until a file is opened on a network share and changes
are made and a save is attempted. upon executing the save function the
workstations just lock up and i get a debugging message.
