i have just migrated a 30 user network onto a 2003 Small Business Server. Everything works great until a file is opened on a network share and changes are made and a save is attempted. upon executing the save function the workstations just lock up and i get a debugging message

this occurs on both 2000 pro and 98 se workstations

this is not happening on all machines so i am totally at a loss.

I've seen this happen if OpsLock (Optimistic Locking) was enabled in the
registry in the machine hosting the share. But so far I haven't been able to
find the article, I'm probably spelling the search wrong because I don't
know how the Reg Key is spelled. I also get buried with database related
articles since that term in commonly used in databases.

Anyway we had the issue pop up with Win98 machines when replacing a NT4
files server with a Win2k file server.

We have this issue as well not all the time but enough to be a pain, I am

Hey Phillip...

Is this what you're referring to?

Yes, it is sir!
I don't see the specific article I dealt with back then or any reference to
the "crashing" of the Win9x machines, but it is the OpsLocking feature that
I was thinking of.
