MAC Key not accepted moving from Madasafish to SKY

Because Madasafish have become unusable since the merger with Plusnet (down to 128
kbps since Saturday etc.) I asked them for a MAC Key which they supplied and I have
rung it through to SKY four times only to find that their equipment rejects it as an
ERROR. Madasafish confirm the number is correct and the SKY operators receive the
correct expiry date when they enter it. SKY have now "Escalated" it? but say it could
take weeks for them to reply.

Has anyone any idea what the problem is?

Anyone leaving Madasafish beware, I was with them for 9 years and they tried to
charge me the following :

=======Paste================================
There are some outstanding fees on your account:

Details:

- Deferred Activation: £40.96

These fees may be:

- Deferred contract (house move, hardware or activation) charges.

- Any outstanding account balances.

- Any migration fees.

===========End Paste============

They waived these when I told them that there were no connection charges when I
signed up and they admitted I was out of Contract. I had been paying £29.99 month
for their top account.

Very good of Sky to give you a heads up regarding the service they will
offer you.

Why don't you take the MAC to a different company and see if it works
with them. If it isn't Sky fault and the MAC genuinely doesn't work you
have lost nothing.

Unfortunately Be/o2 won't supply a service to my line, because I am about 3 km from
the exchange and get about 60/62 db attenuation, other stats are at present:
Rx-Noise= 7.6 Tx-Noise= 13 Rx-Sync= 2464 Tx-Sync= 448
The Noise level is actually quite good 99.9% of the time and my sync is usually 2400
to 2700 with a DL speed of 2mbps, but it only takes a slight increase in noise for BT
to reduce the speed. This graph shows the slight blip that caused my speed to drop
to 128 kbps. This has only started happening recently, I used to get 2 mbps for
days on end prior to the Plusnet merger.

The reason I chose SKY is that I want to get away from this STUPID 3 days at
128 kbps BT nonsense, before we will even consider increasing your speed.
Very often the speed could be increased 5 mins later because the line noise has gone.

There aren't many LLU operators on the St. Helens Exchange.

Thanks for the reply.

If you're moving to Sky LLU, why do you need a MAC?

Good point??? I applied for the Top package and they wouldn't
complete the application until I PHONED through a MAC.

Possibly it's needed to free up the line from BT who will have it
tagged as BB. It should also auto notify Madasafish of the
changeover.

My Madasafish account has been working great since 13:00 hrs today
(Sat) shot up from 128kbps (after a week) to over 2 mbps Sync 2496
Line Noise all day within 6.1 and 6.9 db. Switching off tonight or it
could be back at 128 kbps in the morning.

No it's LZLV etc.

I don't know anything about the MAC code format, but Madasafish
wouldn't know I was going with a LLU supplier.

Re-connected OK (to Madasafish) this morning and still DL at
over 2mbps which is the BT limit on this line. I can live with
2meg it's 128k that I can't stand ;-)

I believe thst is indeed what it is. They need authority from your
current supplier (via the new provider in the form of a MAC) to release
that connection.

The MAC number relates to your OLD supplier. Transferring an existing LLU circuit can cause
trouble.
