MA401 Died on me

With no changes made, the card stopped working from one day to the next on
my Windows ME laptop. The computer recognizes that a PCMCIA card has been
inserted, but calls it an unknown device. I tried the card in another
laptop which had also previously used the card, and it too showed unknown
device. If I "wiggle" the card as I insert it, about one time in 50 it
will recognize that it is a Netgear card but then immediately locks up the
system. The rest of the times it either doesn't detect the card or says
unknown device. I have also tried other PCMCIA cards and confirmed that
the laptop itself is having no problems.

I'm posting this here because Netgear's support system doesn't let Linux
users email technicians directly. I just tried submitting an email on a
Windows system, and it gave me a runtime error. Who knows if they'll ever
get it.

TIA,
Ted

That indicates it's (a) flaky contact(s) on the card.

They're apparently using some kind of browser sniffing to match up browser
to OS. But if you use some obscure (or no) browser, that'll fail, because
it won't recognize it.

1. Get Opera. set "Masquerade as" to something Windows-ish.
or
2. Get a proxy that can change HTTP headers. I know Junkbuster can,
Proxomitron can do everything else so it can probably do that too. Use
it to change your "User-agent" to something Windows-ish.

I wound up going to my wife's XP computer and sent a request from there.
It's been 6 days so their "24 hour turnaround" isn't looking too good. It
sounds like my card is dead, but I wonder if there's anything else I can
try.

Oh, not 24 hours in a row; two hours today, two tomorrow, ...
