I have decided to use WEP on my wireless network and am having
problems with one of the workstations. The network consists of a
LinkSys BEFW11S4 and 2 XP home computers with Netgear MA101 usb
adapters. Both MA101's were working, but WEP would not function with
the XP "Wireless Zero Configuration Service".
A Google search led to the article by Steve
@http://groups.google.com/groups?q=ma101+xp+wep&hl=en&lr=lang_en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&newwindow=1&selm=11a59e8b.0305271820.6b0492fc%40 posting.google.com&rnum=1.
The directions tell how to disable Wireless Zero Configuration and
install a Windows 2000 driver and configuration utility. I followed
these directions and successfully set up one of the workstations. The
other refuses to recognize the Windows 2000 driver. When you point to
the directory containing those drivers, the wizard says it can't find
any suitable drivers and asks if you want to go to the Internet to
search further. It will accept the XP drivers which of course don't
work.
Does any one know why XP home would accept the Win 2000 drivers on one
computer and not the other? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
