This problem is too strange, esp for me...i'm sure someone has the
answer but I do not

RedHat 7.3
wget RPM installed
lynx RPM installed

I can ping websites all day, i can use ftp to get files from domains
no problem

I try to use lynx to open a site and it get's suck on:
Making HTTP connection to www.apache.org ( as an example it is the
same for all sites )

and when I use wget it just kinda stalls like it is tryingto resolve
it.

I removed the rpms for both and reinstalled them thinking maybe they
were corrupt for some reason.

DNS seems to be working fine.

Anyone with any suggestions I would really apprecate them.

Gary

That looks like a firewall problem. Try "telnet www.apache.org 80". Does
this say "Trying 209.237.227.195..." and sit there?

Can you ping www.apache.org (it is pingable)?

If so then your routing and DNS are OK and the most likely problem is a
firewall. You don't say how you are connected to the Internet. The
culprit may be a firewall on your network, or the one in RH.

Regards, Ian

Are you blocking port 80 somewhere?

Try:
telnet www.apache.org 80

then

GET /

and see what happens.

telneting to the http port works fine, i do a GET \ and it dumps the
source code and then closes connection.

i should have mentioned that i totally flushed iptables so I don't
have any possible conficts there ( since once i fix this i can apply
the tables again, those are easier to solve problems : ) )

any other suggestions?

I'm hosed.
