LVS without a separate load balancer

Hi guys,

I am looking for a software based load balancer in a Linux
environment. I know that we have LVS (linux virtual server), but I am
wondering whether it would be possible to deploy this WITHOUT a
separate, physical load balancer. In that case, the lvs service would
run on the same server as the web server, comparable with the way NLB
on a Windows system runs.

Main reason for this is to save costs, we need one or two web servers
and needing a seperate load balancing server is quite a bit of
overhead from that perspective.

Thanks for your time,
Gerco
