The k12ltsp project has everything you need to boot diskless clients from
the server so they come up running only X on the client with the desktop
and all apps running on the server. However, you can do the same with
anything that can run X. For example, on windows you can download
the free Cygwin tools including Xfreee, then from a bash prompt type
Xwin -query server to get a remote desktop. If you have OS-X on the Macs
you can download the apple version of X and do the same. The k12ltsp
distribution also activates a vnc server that starts a new X session as you
connect so you can use any vnc viewer as a client too.
