after installing Microsoft Broadband software I get this "program" opening
itself over and over until the computer slows to a crawl. Restarting the
computer clears it, but then it starts all over again. It doesn't appear to
be a virus or a trojan. Anyone have any ideas what it is?

thanks, Terry

If you're on Windows XP, go into Control Panel and uninstall the front-end
for the Microsoft Broadband Networking. You can administer your devices
using the built-in XP software, including being able to go to the default
address of the base station from the address line in your browser.

No, I'm running Windows 98SE. I've had my network up and running before with
no problems. Shut it down to get rid of a virus and switch computers around
and everything went to heck.

Okay, if you have auxiliary problems on the system, you may wish to check
out the information on MVP Jim Eshelman's web site for malware, Trojans,
spyware, etc.: http://www.aumha.org/secure.htm. It would really be best to
make sure you system is absolutely clean before we attempt to "fix"
anything.

Its not a virus. It is a component of the MS Broadband Networking Utility.
When I was running Win98SE, it would pop up all the time and I was never
able to succesfully stop that behavior without getting rid of the utility.

Asking for advice here was not helpful with this issue, as the people trying
to help here do not seem to be very familiar with Win98 issues.
