Low Resources problem with Windows ME peer-to-peer networking

I am getting a "low resources" message on a PC (Windows ME, 128MB RAM) when
I try to access files on another PC (Windows ME, 128MB RAM) in a 3 PC
peer-to-peer network, even though I have no other problems on this computer
or at accessing the Internet through a router-DSL modem connection. The
same thing happens when the other PC tries to access the one I'm working on.

A third PC (Windows 98, 128MB RAM) does not have a problem accessing either
of the two Windows ME computers. However, both of the Windows ME computers
have the same problem when trying to access the Windows 98 computer, which
causes me to think that the problem exists on the two Windows ME computers.

Before trying to access the other computer, the system resources are in the
80-90% range on both computers. After trying to access another PC from the
Windows ME computer, I get the "low resources" message when the system
resources drop to about 3-4%. This problem does not occur every time I
access the other computer. However, it occurs often. If I can't close any
applications through the Windows ME Task Manager, I have to turn off the
computer to get it restarted..

What do I need to do to resolve this problem?

Marty

Hi Marty,

I too, have more or less the same problem and am trying to
figure it out. I orginally thought it might be my network
card settings. I think it's something in ME explorer or
ME. People in the know say ME is buggy and 98SE is much
better. Have to agree, but I like some things about ME.
I have been thinking of going back to 98SE. Sometimes I
can see the explorer window constantly refreshing itself.
The computer seems to be tied up doing I don't know what.
If you map the drives first it seems to intermitttently
work fine. I'll let you know if I figure it out and if
you do, please let me know.

Thanks,
John Fry
