You should be able to access his machine via the public IP address
that his DSL service provider assigns to it.
If it's a dynamic IP address, then it could change at any time. In
that case, the solution is to sign him up for a dynamic DNS service,
like
http://www.dyndns.org , which will assign him an unchanging DNS
name that can be automatically updated whenever his IP address
changes.
