Lost of internet gateway

Hi

From time to time my internet gateway icon disappears from my network
connections folder in the control panel. At the same time the internet
connection icon in the bottom right hand corner of the screen also
disappears.

The only way I can get them back is by disabling and re-starting my
local area connection.

Can anyone suggest a more permanent fix.

Win XP home SP 2
Netgear DG834G via ethernet cable
2.2 meg broadband connection.

IIUYC, this happens to my system too and I find it is purely cosmetic.
I have just my LAN icon present in my status bar and have given up
worrying why the gateway icon is sometimes present and (usually) not.

It bugged the hell out of me, then I gave up and live with it.

I'd still be interested in why it happens though <g>.
