have a win 200 SBS server, with XP SP2 clients.

up to a few days ago I had no problems but now all users have a problem file
and print sharing.

users can still brows internet, still remote desktop into server but can not
access folders on the server. If the user repairs the network connection
they can then access files and folders on the server. but if they log off
and on again they will need to repair again.

any ideas

What happens? Do you mean by using mapped drives, or UNC paths? What errors?
Are you using login scripts?

UNC paths don't work, unless a repair is done first.

other thing like the internet and Remote desktop work fine.

We do have log on scripts but they don't run when this problem is active.

Event logs on workstations give you any clues?

no,

you can connect from one computer to the other, its only the server that
loses connection to the workstations.

DNS set up right? All servers and workstations should specify *only* the
internal/SBS/AD-integrated DNS server's IP address in their network
settings. That DNS server should be set up with forwarders to your ISP's DNS
servers for external resolution and/or use root hints.
