Wired network of 1 desktop (01) and 3 laptops in
workgroup named ATTBI accessed two printers connected to
desktop 01. Printers were shared and were accessible to
all 4 computers, running Win 2000 Pro.
Added Microsoft Braodband Networking Wireless Notebook
Kit MN-820 using CD install to Desktop 01, to which Base
Station was attached. After CD was installed, ethernet
cable to upstream Internet (via a Netgear router
connected to a DSL modem) was removed from Desktop 01 and
connected to "modem" jack on Wireless Base Station. New
ethernet cable was installed from Wireless Base Station
to Desktop 01, using Jack #1 on rear of Base Station.
Sharing option selected was "same as existing." Workgroup
name for wireless workgroup same as previously existing
workgroup name for the wired network: ATTBI.
Connection was tested, and Internet access worked, after
running setup utility.
Laptop 03 was then unable to recognize Workgroup ATTBI,
whereas previously it was able to do so. Previously-
shared printers attached to Desktop 01 became inacessible
to Laptop 03. That is the main problem.
Then installed CD on Laptop 02, and then added CardBus
remote station card to laptop and ran config utility and
selected sharing same as existing. Used the diskette
created to store Desktop01's network settings on
Laptop02. Unlike Laptop 03, Laptop 02 was able to
recognize network files on Desktop 01, but not previously-
shared printers. That is the secondary problem.
Must also get Laptop04 able to use the two printers
attached to Desktop01.
Does the fact that the wired network, which we want to
continue using, has name "ATTBI", which is the same name
given to the new wireless network, appear to be the key
to the problem?
