I am having a problem with my dial-up network connection
under windows ME.
Problem:
The dial-up connection connects, logs in and responds as
ready. The connection exchanges around 500 bytes of data
and then nothing else. Internet Explorer, Mozilla,
Eudora, and Outlook all are unable to connect. Picking
up the phone line confirms that the connection is still
active.
Cause:
I was setting up a home network between this computer and
a XP machine. This computer could see the XP share but
the XP could not see the ME machine. The network setup
utility under XP creates a disk to setup non XP
computers. Once I ran that disk in the ME computer I
lost the dial-up network connection.
Computer:
Dell 8100 PIV 1.5 running ME with service packs through
September 2003.
Mcaffe virus and firewall.
Belkin wireless switch connected to PCI network card
PCI internal modem.
What I tried.
Turned off the firewall. Uninstalled the firewall
Removed and reinstalled the dial-up networking.
Removed and reinstalled the modem and dial-up networking.
Removed and reinstalled all networking.
Tried system restore. Restores points prior to the event
do not work. Restore from the day of the event works but
does not correct the problem.
After reading here, tried two winsock repair utilities.
LSPFIX made no changes. Second program I found ran and
did not report any errors.
Does anyone have anther solution I can try?
Thanks for reading,
Bruce
