Lost connection - too many walls

Setting up a wireless connection with a wireless router:

The network access from a notebook has an excellent
signal then is lost several rooms away. Would it work to
put a second wireless router at a halfway point between
the far office and the wireless router connected to the
host station?
Will the two wireless routers see each other and bridge
the connection within the same subnet?

Using a Microsoft base station, you would need to have it wired to the first
and change the mode. Here's details on how to set that up:
