Hello,
Thank you for using newsgroup! From your post, I agree with Bob's suggestions. You may first check the default time-out period for the autodisconnect feature of the Server service, open a command prompt, type the following line, and then press ENTER net config server /autodisconnect:number Please refer to: 297684: Mapped Drive Connection to Network Share May Be Lost http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297684/en-us And then please confirm if you have installed any Symantec software on the server and clients. As I know, some Symantec could cause these similar issues as below: 932463: A mapped network drive appears to be disconnected after you install or upgrade to Symantec AntiVirus 10.0 or to Symantec Client Security 3.0 on a Windows Server 2003-based computer or on a Windows XP-based computer http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932463/en-us More Info: 305355: Some Compaq Programs Cause Mapped Drives to Be Disconnected http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305355/en-us 330519: Red 'X' appears on Home folder mapped drive in Windows Explorer http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330519/en-us Thanks & Regards, Ken Zhao Microsoft Online Support Microsoft Global Technical Support Center Get Secure! - www.microsoft.com/security <http://www.microsoft.com/security> ================================================== == When responding to posts, please "Reply to Group" via your newsreader so that others may learn and benefit from your issue. ================================================== == This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. -------------------- | Reply-To: "Robert L \(MS-MVP\)" <(E-Mail Removed)> | From: "Robert L \(MS-MVP\)" <(E-Mail Removed)> | References: <6676869A-A641-4063-AEC2-(E-Mail Removed)> | Subject: Re: lost connection to network mapped drives | Date: Mon, 1 Oct 2007 12:46:26 -0500 | Lines: 28 | Organization: Chicagotech.net | X-Priority: 3 | X-MSMail-Priority: Normal | X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.3138 | X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2900.3138 | X-RFC2646: Format=Flowed; Original | Message-ID: <#(E-Mail Removed)> | Newsgroups: microsoft.public.windows.server.networking | NNTP-Posting-Host: 64.107.43.222 | Path: TK2MSFTNGHUB02.phx.gbl!TK2MSFTNGP01.phx.gbl!TK2MSF TNGP05.phx.gbl | Xref: TK2MSFTNGHUB02.phx.gbl microsoft.public.windows.server.networking:7763 | X-Tomcat-NG: microsoft.public.windows.server.networking | | We need more information to help. thanks guys, the default autodisconnect is 15 minutes. none of the
suggestions mentioned apply here. no symantec installed, no compaq programs running and no x appears in front of drives. we have 2 DHCP servers allocating IPs, and for no apparent reason when users log in in the morning, they have no mapped drives, and the only way to fix this is to release and renew the IP address. thanks -- IT sultan of Morocco ""Ken Zhao [MSFT]"" wrote: > Hello, > > Thank you for using newsgroup! > > From your post, I agree with Bob's suggestions. Hello,
From your reply, you have two DHCP servers in the network. Is this single sub-network? Why have you two DHCP servers? Based on my knowledge, some IP conflict or assignment issue may be caused by two DHCP servers. hi we are running a class B network, and the 2 DHCPs are issuing two
different scopes. ie: 10.0.100.1 to 10.0.100.254, and the other 10.0.101.1 to 10.0.101.254. all part of the same domain thanks -- IT sultan of Morocco ""Ken Zhao [MSFT]"" wrote: > Hello, > > From your reply, you have two DHCP servers in the network. Hello,
From your description, does the issue occur on all DHCP clients? You have to release and renew IP to resolve the issue every time? If so, I think this could be related to the network environment. I suggest you check DHCP server configuration to see if they are working fine. it does not occur on all DHCP clients, only about 20%, and yes we have to
release and renew IP to resolve the issue every time i have checked DHCP and it is working fine. the other thing, clients only lose their connection to the network shares, but carry on using outlook and the internet, so they must have a valid IP address. -- IT sultan of Morocco ""Ken Zhao [MSFT]"" wrote: > Hello, > > From your description, does the issue occur on all DHCP clients?
