I am new to Win2003 and ADS, but since joining my new job (secondary school)
I have had to try and pick it up. The problem I am having at the moment is
that in my school there are around 200 pcs all of which log into the domain
and the majority of them work fine. However, recently, some pcs cant login
(saying the domain is not available) and I have go in as local administrator,
take them out of domain and into a workgroup, reboot and then re-enter them
back into the domain...and then everything is ok...until, perhaps a couple of
days and that pc has lost connectivety or has no rights to one of our
servers...and I have perform the above steps again....

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Tony

First thing to check is that they only point to an Active Directory domain
controllers running dns with the domain zone as their preferred dns servers.
You can use ipconfig /all to check such and compare to computers that are
not having a problem. NEVER allow an ISP dns server to be a preferred dns
server for a domain computer. If it still happens, run the support tool
netdiag on the computer next time it happens looking for failed tests for dc
discovery, dns, kerberos, trust/secure channel and also check Event Viewer
for any clues and try to ping the domain controller by name and fully
qualified domain name. If problems are found and dns is properly configured
I would suspect a bad network adapter, bad cable to the switch, a problem
with the switch port, or maybe even a hardware problem with the
omputer. --- Steve
