Losing DNS servers after x hours

Anybody seen anything like this?

After 18 months of trouble-free operation and on returning from a
week's holiday I find that after a few hours I cannot connect to new
sites although downloads in progress continue. The ISP's (NTL) DNS
server cannot be pinged but a rapid power recycle of the Netgear RP114
restores this and all works OK again for another few hours.

Netgear reckons it's NTL that have some program that disconnect
unregistered MAC addresses but NTL deny that and, in any case, it has
been working with the same kit for a long time prior to this.

I don't think it's any of my applications as I've tried not running
them for periods and the same thing happens.

The Netgear has the latest code installed. I'm also using a Terayon
cable modem.

I've had the same problem with ntl in Swansea.

No router.. vanilla teryon into the PC via lan.
Now use my own DNS server works 100% faster than ntl's effort.

go a google for "BIND for windows"

Thanks. There must be a less involved solution though.... please?

Can I just simply use some other DNS server addresses?

I guess so.. but isp's tend to restrict access to users on their own system.
I've yet to find an authorised free access one.

try these 2 :

a.. Primary - 158.152.1.58
a.. Secondary - 158.152.1.43
they may work (demon)

I still have the same problem and no longer ping the above servers
when I lose connectivity so it doesn't seem to simply be a DNS issue.
