losing connection to shared folders

Since installing new 2003 server, my win 98 machines lose
their connection to shared/mapped folders. The
connections are fine when the user first logs on but
after a time (varies from a few minutes to hours, and not
all the 98 machines are having this problem - to my
knowledge) "no access" errors are given when trying to
open any share. The connection always comes back after
rebooting and logging back in. I have installed the
DSClient off the 2000 server cd on all 98 machines. I
have been searching for a common thread between
occurances on each machine but have yet to discover one.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.
..

Immediately when a 98 machines gives this error check on the server, if the
user's account is locked. If yes then
in the Group Policy try increasing the lock out threshold from default 5 to
15 or more.

yes & no... I just had a user reboot their computer
because they lost access to their home directory. After
rebooting, they got a password incorrect error...I new
from seeing this particular error before that they not
only lost access to their folder but their account had
been locked. so...sometimes their accounts are locked and
other times a reboot is all that is required??

Again same behaviour, as I experienced.
Well, even if not locked, increase the threshold to 15.
With this, the problems will reduce, but will not go
completely, but it will be reduced drastically.
Witin a week or more the problem will disppear.

Sorry to inform like this, but this is what happened
on two seperate installations, no one on this
or other a few newsgroup infrom or advice me
(except that someone told me just exactly what
i told you above) and it happened to be that way.

Not a proffessional / techncial approach, but it
worked for me.

I will increase the threshold to 15 then. Thank you very
much for the feedback Sharad.
