Losing connection to networked drives - XP Pro/Win 2003 SBS

I've seen this posted in the past and want to add it
myself- maybe Microsoft can help us!

I have Win 2003 SBS server with approx 13 clients (4 XP
PRO, 9 Win 2k.) It's a DEll 1600SC. All of my Win XP Pro
seats are Dell 4600 PC's up to date with patches, service
packs, etc. I'm using the server as a file server and
also using Xchange on the server.

Each PC has two drives mapped to the server: M and W
EVERYDAY, the XP Pro seats lose the connection to the
mapped drives: "An error has occured while reconnecting M:
to \\<server> The local device name is already in use,
This connection has not been restored"
The user needs to log off and log in to get it working.
We do not need to reboot. When the problem happens, I've
been able to access the server (w/o logging out and in)
using the \\<server> path to the shared folder. I can also
ping the server. The mapped drives continue to have a "red
X" until I log out and back in. The Win 2K seats are
accessing the mapped drives without problem.

The problem never happens on the Win 2K seats. I've tried
different NICs, cabling, switch, etc on the XP Pro PC's.
It happens most often between 4-5pm EST. Nothing
different is going on at that time of day. Last night it
happened in the middle of the night while systems were all
idle. Some were logged in with no apps open.
Some users in this group say it happens when the PC is
idle; not the case here. The mapped drives are being used
and the error still occurs.

I think it's time for Microsoft to look at this one.
