Losing connection to domain

I have just added a Windows XP pro to my domain, it is fully up to date,
when I try to copy the profile from the local account to the domain account
and select "Allowed to use" it shows me the domain in the "Locations" drop
down box.
When I type in the user name and click on check, it takes a while and then
comes back, cane find user or object......
Then if I click cancel and go back to copy profile it only shows the local
machine under "Locations", and the only way to get the domain back is to
reboot the machine and then it gives the error again.
This is the only pc on the domain with this problem, so its a problem with
the Machine not the server.
Please let me know if you have experienced this and know how to sort it out.

TIA

Are you using AD? Make sure your domain's DNS is set up properly - all
servers and workstations should specify *only* the internal DNS server's IP
address in their network settings. The DNS server itself should be set up
with forwarders to your ISP's DNS servers for external resolution.
