lose connectivity to mapped drive

I am running win2K client sp3 and log in to a Win 2003
server as Primary Domain. I have drive H mapped to a
shared folder on the 1* domain server. Often, thoughout a
day, when I go to access that drive, I get an error
saying "the local device name is already in use. This
connection has not been restored". The thing is, if I
keep trying - about 3 times in a row usually - then the
connection is restored and I can access the drive letter.
Is this something local or is it something on my server.
Other users are starting to experience the same
thing...but they are running XP Pro. Any suggestions?

Are you using a login script?

I'd recommend it -

net use x: /del
(etc)

and then

net use x: \\servername\%username% /persistent: no

Not sure if this will address your issue...another thing is, is your
AD-integrated DNS server's IP address the only DNS address configured in
your workstation/server IP configs, with forwarders to your ISP's DNS
servers set on the DNS server itself?

yes, the only DNS I have on that computer is the AD-
integrated DNS servers IP and forwarding to our ISP is on
the DNS server.

Hello Lanwench,
I've been having basically exactly the same problem with
a Win 2000 workstation and some Macs to a 2003 Enterprise
Server dropping the mounted volumes or mapped shares. Each
logs a security event when the disconnection occurs. The
Win 2000 machine relogs in when we attempt to access
creating a logon event in the security events log. The
Macs must re-authenticate to re-mount the volumes.
Can I use the your script for the logon script in the
profile tab of each user's property window?
Type "net use: /del" exactly and "net use x:
\\servername\%username% /persistent: no" with my
server\user name substituted. Yes?
Your help would be extremely appreciated.
BTW - Great ID.

Thanks,
Chris Yates
