All,

I have a windows 2000 member server that keeps loosing network connection.
The only way to get the connection back is to reboot the server. Within a
24 hour period the computer loosing network printing and internet
connection. I can still see the computer from the intenal network, but if I
don't reboot the mapped drives will eventually be lost as well. Any
suggestions would be appreciated on a way to troubleshoot the problem.

Thanks
Carlos

What DNS server(s) does the problem server point to for primary? Alternate?

It points to the DC as the preferred DNS and nothin in the alternate DNS.

Test putting the preferred DNS server as preferred and alternate.

I've seen this happen when the alternate DNS entry is pointing to a DNS
server not set up for the AD domain, like an ISP's DNS server.

Danny,

Initially it was set to the ISP DNS Server. I changed that, but did not
correct the problem. I have made the preferred and alternate the same - DC
IP address.

I also noticed that their was no entry for the WINS server. Should this
point to the DNS server as well.

Thanks

Not unless you have WINS installed on the server that has DNS installed.
WINS is not necessary with AD unless you have an app or service that relies
on WINS.

Having your ISP's DNS server as alternate would cause the problems you are
seeing. Using the primary as the alternate also should fix the problem.

Danny,

Before I made that change the server lost connection. I can not access the
internet or any computer on the network. If you send a print job to a
printer that was shared from that machine it errors out. Do you know of
anything that I could try before restarting that computer.

Thanks

I'm not sure of the particular services that would need to be restarted.

A restart of the system should do it though.
