What are good wireless NIC PCI cards that work well
with linux? I found the Netgear WG311 but some
of the reviews thought it's signal output was weak.
The compatibility lists I've found are out of date.

I have a Dline WNA2330 - Atheros chipset - worked out of the box on Ubuntu
6.06.

Too bad that's a notebook card and not a PCI desktop card....

Just look for cards that have RealTek, Orinoco or Atheros chips. Linux
has drivers for those. For any others, you'll need to use a "wrapper."

You will find a list of supported cards at

Sorry about that - senior moment - I'm used to wireless on a laptop. I
believe that most of the Atheros based cards should work - ralink has a
good reputation as well.

I prefer cards based on Intel, Ralink and Atheros chips; the last as a
least, though it is much more versatile.

Or the only those one, whose drivers are included in the latest stable
kernel release.

Be careful about the chipset, don't rely the model number and, or make.
