(Hello good people. Please may I pick your brains.)

As per subject, plus ... and capable of taking 56K modem for fallback
dialup, with multi-NAT, port forwarding, firewall capabilities, syslog,
uPNP (with option to disable), command-line interface.

Not really concerned about no. of LAN/switch ports on the router (as
long as there's one :-)) since I've got switches that can be used.

'Cheapest' one I've found is ZyXEL Prestige 652 ADSL. Dratyek Vigor 2600
would be a contender *if* it supported vanilla dialup rather than ISDN
as fallback (unless anyone knows better?).

Anyone know of other contenders? Speedtouch 610 I've seen, and it is a
little more expensive. Cisco stuff is in the Too Much Dosh category.

Problems/pitfalls with the ZyXEL? (I've read the report on adslguide).

All (polite) suggestions/advice/pointers gratefully received.

The new ZyXel ^%2HW is a 4 port version of the old 652R..
Its £209 + Vat so pricy but should be a very good router.

Ive used an old P650H for ages and had no problems what so ever with it.

Regards.

Presumably you still have 56k modem, so keep it just in case.
I can recommend Draytek 2600, never needed to dial up since PlusNet BB
install in May.
Regards,
Martin
