Point 1 . Do you have a clear line of site between both points. IE can you
see the point you want to connect to.?

Let us know.

I do not know of any other wireless setup near by and just want to try to see
if I can get anything near by. Mostly look to see ya if I could get like a
wireless cable connection.

I am having a bit of trouble understanding what you are writing.
My interpretation of what you wrote above is that you want to "snoop
around" your electronic neighbourhood and see if you can pick up any
signals up to 2 or 3 miles away. Your reference to "good rate" in
your first posting, together with what I interpret from your second posting,
appears to indicate that you are hoping to find an unsecured wireless
connection and use it, probably without authorization.

If my interpretation is correct, then that would not be a task I
would be interested in assisting you in carrying out.

me thinks....

>>>> think mode>>>>>>>>

errrr.....

cause it's illegal????

Hmmmm... All that "free" access...hmmm tempting I must admit, but (gawd
allways a but)...

If you were paying good money for the extra bandwidth, and someone else was
"stealing it" what would you do to them??

Realistically though, Without permission to connect to a network, it would
be breaking the law.

On the other hand, there ARE some people out there that want others to use
their WiFi, I should imagine that their SSID's would also point this out for
the ones that are looking for an alternitive means to communicate..

What you appeared to propose to do (and appear to confirm now)
would be illegal in Canada, and arguments have been made that it would
in most cases be illegal in all of the USA as well.

None of the places that you list are considered open to the public.

So find such a place, ask their permission to try, and upon approval
plan out the route (line of sight is always best!) and give it a go.

What the laws around here say is: Always Always Get Permission First.

I am not shouting.
I see that you have a great ideas..
Thats cool, However, I would do as Walter sudjested, and ask for permission
before going ahead without it.

Better to be safe than sorry.

On the other hand...
I would look into how Networking works.

Warning .. Trying to run before you can walk will make you trip.
