I am tired of the efax lousy performance (or lack there of!) I am looking to
go to a FAX/MODEM, but I need to figure out how with my setup.

I have a laptop (run it from down stairs, where there is not a close by
phone jack) I use 802.11a/b/g to get to the net. My router is near a phone
line. I also have my kids computer hardwired to the access point (dlink),
but this system is rarely on.

What would be a decent way for me to have access to a modem, with out
directly connecting one to my laptop, and not requiring my kids system to be
on all of the time?
Are there any modems that have 802.11a/b/g capability?
Are there any modems that hook direcly to an ethernet port?
Are there any 802.11a/b/g routers/ access points that have builit in modem
or a RJ-11 connector for a modem?
I did see a Brother multi Function machine that would allow wireless
connection and it had a built in FAX, but I was hoping for something not
quite so sophisticated (I already have a printer upstairs (new HP photo
printer from Santa)

I would like to stay (hopefully) under 200 for the solution (yes, the
brother was under 200, barely)

Thanks
Bruce

got an old computer laying around with network card and a modem/fax. set it
up to be on at all times, share the fax modem and access it through the
wireless. if anything you can share the fax files and view them on the
wireless access???

Just a thought... wouldnt need a very big drive 2 - 10 gig maybe...

I was thinking about this and I'm not sure how you would accomplish what you
want to do without having the modem being plugged into a workstation. The
reason is because you would need a server/client program to talk to the
modem for sending your faxes.

Also, there are RJ45 to RJ11 adapters, but again that'd be useless because
you can't just hook up the modem to your router and talk to it through the
network. It's much more complicated than that.

The only thing I can think of is to buy a network fax machine that can have
its own IP address and one that you can talk to it through the network. But,
as someone has already suggested, it'd be cheaper to just get an old
dedicated server for your fax needs.

OR, run a line from a phone jack to your laptop and hook up the modem by
your laptop.
