Hello all,

I am hoping that someone else has figured out a solution to my problem. Here
is my configuration:

Radios: DWL-900AP+
Distance: 13 Miles
Antennas: 24dBi Andrew Grid.
End point one - radio is mounted directly to antenna pigtail.
End point 2 - radio is connected to a 1 watt smart amp with 16 dB of RX
gain. Coax to antenna is 50'.

I have relatively clean line of sight between the two sites. About a mile
from end point 2, there is a hill with trees on top that may infringe on the
fresnal clearence.

On both ends I have about -50dBm rssi. Measured with an Orinoco silver card.

My problem is that I get no more than 300 kbps across the link!

Behind endpoint #2 is a water tank - really big, but 25' away from the
antenna. What am doing wrong?

Sierra

My guess would be that the AMP is the problem. The Amps that are used
for 802.11b are a half duplex amp. The problem is that if there is
even a small amount of received signal present at the AMP it will stay
in the receive mode.

I have tried this before with amps and they make the links appear
stronger for signal strength but have worse performance due to the
switching between RX and TX mode.

The amp may also introduce noise on the receive signal that may cause
problems as well.
