Hello All,

I have a situation on a windows 2k pro that is very perplexing. The setup is as follow:

a.. user logon a domain
b.. connects to a share that is located on a unix box
c.. connection fails wither error of wrong username or password
d.. This failure only happens for this specific user id (called it userA) and on this specific windows 2k pro machine
e.. If another username and password is used on this windows 2k pro machine, success.
f.. If the specific user, userA, logs into another windows 2k pro machine with the exact configuration (meaning having the same application installed and in the same domain) and connect to this unix share, success.
I have tried the following scenarios and failed:
a.. clear the cache (deleting all temp files)
b.. deleted the user's profile
c.. log into the workstation with another user id and connect to the share using userA's id and password
d.. changing the username and password for this user so that the credential for logging into the domain and the unix share is the same
e.. i have tried to enable the plaintextpassword in the registry
f.. i have re-run the setup program in windows 2k pro
Anyone have any suggestions I can try? All comment is appreciated.

Regards,

Diana

Did you check the permissions on the UNIX share?
Is UserA allowed, or the group userA belongs to is allowed etc.

Hi Sharad,

I did check and userA is allowed. This is why userA was able to connect to
the unix share when she is on another computer. The problem is not
permission on domain or on the unix box because userA could connect to both
when she's on a different computer. The problem is very specific, only
userA account have a problem on this problem computer. Any other user
account have no problem.

I thought it might be some sort of damage user account id, that is specific
to userA account, so I deleted the profle. But that didn't work. I don't
know if there is another way to remove userA account id from that computer.

Thanks for commenting though

Diana

Hi Again,

Thought I would update this to anyone who is interested:
I've tried changing to a new nic, as Lei Su, suggested but it didn't work
I've tried removing the SID and GUID from the registry for this userA on
this problem workstation...Didn't work.

I'm running out of ideas, guess I will be rebuilding this machine

Cheers!

Just a shot in the dark.
Internet Explorer, Tools -> Internet Options -> Content tab
Click on Autocomplete, click on clear passwords, clear forms.
