I need to logon to a trusted domain behind the router
using win98 in a NT 4.0 network . Can this be done or only
nt based machines can logon to NT Domains?

Only NT (NT, 2000, XP Pro) computers can log onto an NT domain. The best a
Windows 98 computer can do is verify a user name and password, nothing else.
