I have a NT 4.0 service pack 6a server running DHCP
server. All my windows 9X computer receive a IP address
however when longing onto the server they receive the
error that their password is incorrect or access to the
domain server is denied. I have windows 2000 and XP
longing on with no errors. The server's event long shows
that the DHCP is giving a NACK to every computer. I have
disable DHCP on the server and given static IP's to the
computer but they still get the same error. Thanks in
advance for the help!

Lots of possibilities here.

First, are the Win9x computers getting a valid IP address from the DHCP
server, or are they getting a private range (192.168.xxx.xxx) address?

Second, are the Win9x computers getting an IP address in the same range as
the 2000 and XP computers?

Third, can the 9x systems ping the DHCP server and the PDC by name and by IP
address?

Finally do they all have something in common other than all being 9x
clients? Are they perhaps all on the same switch or router? Can you swap a
9x box and a 2K/XP box to see if the 9x box works in a different location?

ping the server and the server can ping them. and they
are in 3 office on there own going strate to the server
room all in the same hub/switch. i did move an xp box to
where the 9x box was and it worked fine. i even put in

Whoa.

You have your entire network in the 168.254.xxx.xxx range? Did you set it
up that way on purpose? That may have been an unwise choice since those are
not valid private IP addresses.

I didn't even notice that. Richard is correct. You will want to use
192.168.x.x or 10.0.0.x

Then something else must have changed recently, or maybe the Win98 boxes
have become infested with spyware? Are they Internet-connected and do users
browse the 'net with them?
