Hi,

I get a login problem from WinXP client to Windows 2000 server. I have two
sites which connected via site to site VPN connection
14 clients are located in network 192.168.25.128/26 with gateway
192.168.25.190. DNS is pointing to 192.168.204.5 and 4
The other site with Windows 2000 server installed with network
192.168.204.0/24 with gateway 192.168.204.254.
A static route has been added to the routing table 192.168.25.0
192.168.204.252 at the router in network 192.168.204.0

The windows server is installed with active directory.

When I try to login to the Windows from XP. The message promot me the
Domain is cannot be found and the shared folder in the server cannot be
mapped.

How can I connect to this Windows server with different network segment?

Thank you

Charles

If the 192.168.204.0 network needs a static route to reach the
192.168.25.128 network, doesn't the 192.168.25.128 network also need a
static route to reach 192.168.204.0?

Step one is to check that the routing is working. Can you ping the
server from the client by its IP address?

Step two is to check that you can reach the server by DNS. From a
command prompt on the client, do an nslookup of the server's DNS name (eg
server.domain.lcl). Does it return the correct IP address?

Right. What happens if you do nslookup with just the server name (eg
server).

Then routing and name resolution are working correctly. Is the workstation
joined to the domain? If not, what happens if you try to join it?
