Logging MAC Address Wireless Client?

Is there any way to log MAC of all the clients accessing my wireless base
station? I want to open my public hot spot free for others, but I am afraid
they are doing something bad (like spamming) via my base station. I want to
at least log the users in case this does happen. Do you know where I can
configure it? Thanks. I am using MN-500.

You can see what wireless cards associate themselves to your router in your
base station log
However, for the MN500, it is limited to 128 entries (so entries could
scroll off before you can capture it.

Unforunately, there is no way to automate outputing the log to an external
source (ie snmp logging). If you need that functionality, you'll probably
want to get another product.

Jason, thanks for your reply. I looked up
http://192.168.2.1/security_log.htm. However, it seems I didn't find any
entry related to MAC address. It only logs dialing ups, and client loggins
to the web adminstration interface. Did I lost anything? Thanks.

Airsnare will track the MAC addresses.

Also, see article at thescreensavers;

Good luck,
JER

Try turning off then on a wireless laptop. Meanwhile keep
refreshing the router logs page on another computer. You
should see the wireless accesses coming in on the logs.
(Msgs saying WAN access actually refer to attacks from
the Internet that were stopped by the router).

Anyway, a better way is probably to extend the leases for
DHCP (set Lease Time to 12 or 24 hrs on the Local Area
Network page). Then by the end of the day or half day you
should have the list of all machines connected on the
Home page of the router with MAC addresses. I don't know
if there is a maximum size but you can make several tries
and see how it works out.

Now, the data is not saved on your PC automatically and
get lost when the lease expire (or you reach the maximum
size, if there is one). You may just copy the data by
hand and save it by hand, or if you don't want to be
bothered copying and saving the list by hand, you can
also consider writing a VB script to copy and save the
list automatically -- it should be pretty easy.
