Hi,

Please can someone help me with this?

I need to be able to write out the content of a Kernel Panic message
onto a log file ( or /var/log/messages ) whenever the system panics
during a power up ( Reboot ).

I know that once the machine is up, /proc/sys/kernel/panic=60 will
reboot the machine automatically after 60 seconds, which is good,
but (1) does this apply to when the machine is powering up too?
and if so, (2) how do I get the panic message dumped to file?

Thanks v. much

This is a chicken and egg situation, since panics often result in system
s not being able to write to disk. You may want to set up a serial
console to relfelct the terminal message on a serial port, which you can
monitor from another system running kermit or minicom (which can
subsequently log the session). Also, you may want to investigate the
netdump package which (assuming you have a supported NIC) allows you to
record syslogs and oopses from a remote machine.

Thanks Neil, I'll look into netdump

Rather than analysing any memory images, my first concern is to
be able to log the messages somewhere, before the reboot.
And i'll check netdump re that
