In Windows XP is there an easy way to log the traffic between an adsl
modem (not router) and the adsl login servers?
Nildram seem to be having problems with some logins not connecting at
the moment and I want to record what is actually happening when I try
to login....

You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the
Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your
computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may also
prevent you from completing this procedure.

Open Phone and Modem Options in Control Panel.
On the Modems tab, click the modem whose commands you want to log.
Click Properties, and then click the Diagnostics tab.
In Logging, select Append to Log.

Notes
To open Phone and Modem Options, click Start, point to Settings, click
Control Panel, and then double-click Phone and Modem Options.
Click View Log to display the log file. This file identifies the modem,
and displays information about how it is functioning.
Commands sent to the modem are captured in the file:
Systemroot\System32\ModemLog_Model.txt.

The path is usually C:\Windows\System32\. Model is the name of the modem
as it appears in the list of installed modems on the Modems tab of Phone
and Modem Options.

Unfortunately the modem is classed as a network device rather than a
'modem', so that doesn't work.

Alcatel pci, with an Itex chipset...I think it is now called the
SpeedTouch PC (sold by Thompson).
The software that came with it doesn't seem to have any option for a
logfile, and only has a basic line monitoring function of
no synch/synching/receive/transmit/problem
