UPnP = Universal Plug and Play. As for its functions, well I've given
above one example of its use in my previous post although there are many
others. Personally I don't think it works that well or reliably in Win Me
but it works with few if any problems in XP. For best use one requires a)
a UPnP enabled router, b) an attached PC with UPnP enabled and c) UPnP
enabled software. The software then opens and redirects the necessary
ports on the router. That you can also display an icon in the
notification area that provides information about the gateway is a bonus
for those who want to check their router throughput from their PC client.
