Local Area Connection Icon

In the Notification Area (next to the clock), I have an icon, which looks
like 2 monitors with a red X over. The text label says "Local Area
Connection. A Network Cable is unplugged." Since I use a wireless network, I
don't need this cable connection and did disable it long ago. However, the
icon stays. I tried Customize Notification, but there is no option to remove
icon, just hide it.
May someone please suggest how may I remove Local Area Connection icon from
the notification area?

Hi
Disable the Wired NIC in the Device manager.
Jack (MVP-Networking).

Jack,
thanks for your suggestion. I looked in the Device Manager and the RAS Async
Adapter is disabled. There is a red X over it.
What do I now?

Hi Ilya,

Double click the Icon on the Notification Area and the Local Area Connection
Properties window will open with the default General Tab Active, if not click
on it.
Down Under locate these two check boxes and Uncheck them:
[ ] Show Icon in notification area when connected
[ ] Notify me when this connection has limited or no connectivity

Does the Above help?.
If it didn't try this:
Did you Right click the Start Button and select Properties then on the
taskbar and Start Menu Properties Under Taskbar Tab click on Customize Button
opposite this:
[ ] Hide inactive icons [ Customize...]
There Highlight the Local Area Network Icon and select from the drop down
list Always Hide.
HTH.
Let us know.

Hi
Can you list the Network related Hardware that is installed on your
computer.
RAS Async Adapter is a rather unusual name for a network Adapter.

Jack,
here's what listed in the Device Manager under Network Adapters:
Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection
RAS Async Adapter
Wireless-B PCI Adapter
Nothing else.

help, I think I need the opposite help. I have no icon anywhere for
wireless network connections but think maybe I used to have. I am having
trouble setting one up; see my message above.

Thanks for any help you can give me but beware, I know nothing!
