Hi,
Any ideas as to why I suddenly have this need to keep resetting the network
adapter via network sharing? (I am sure its associated here) I have just
changed ISP and their supplied router is both wireless and Ethernet. My
previous was Ethernet only. I only use Ethernet at the moment but network
sharing keeps identifying two networks. I cant merge or delete as that
option is greyed out!! I am running win vista ultimate.
Any help advice gratefully accepted
Stuart.

I seem to have solved it to some degree. Reduced speed on adapter to 10mbs!
Dont know what effects that will have elsewhere though?
Stuart.

It isn't very clear from your description what the actual problem is, but
if it works better at 10Mb than at 100Mb I'd suspect a bad cable. Try
changing it. Also try a different port on the router (they usually have
four).

Maybe I'm missing something - why are you running network sharing if you
have a router?

In all honesty I have always had Network sharing. I dont have any other
option. A four port router generally allows for a network of other connected
pcs?

Is there some confusion in terminology ?
Sharing Internet Access via one computer, and/or sharing files/printers
over a network ?

Anyway- is the OP using a laptop or PC with wireless facility .
If so are both network devices (cable ethernet and wireless ) trying to
connect at the same time ?

Using a PC with wireless facility and Ethernet via ISP supplied router.
I connect with cable as with previous router.
Its possible that some "confusion" of the system has occurred here but not
sure what to do about it or identify the nature.
There are some references to vista incidents of "two networks" detected and
also "local Access only".
I tried one suggestion which is to reduce the speed of the adapter but its
not a satisfactory one to my mind and I continue to try identifying other
forms of advice/help to cure the problem.

Sounds like you have 2 network connection both cable and wireless to the
router
You should only have one

Disable one of them ! Suggest disabling the wireless as you can
physically use the wired ethernet one ! As its Vista I cant tell you how.

If you cant find how to disable the wireless, just unplug the cable.

What do you mean exactly by "network sharing"?

A network by it's very nature is a way of sharing
resources/connectivity. Your use of the the phrase "network sharing" is
muddying the water somewhat.

I assumed he meant Internet Connection Sharing, maybe he just means File
and Printer Sharing.
