Hi Everyone,

I'm a wireless newbie, so please don't flame too hard ;-D

System:
Compaq Armada 7400 Laptop
Vector Linux 3.2
Kernel 2.4.20
SMC EZ Wireless PC Card (SMC2632W)

I've just downloaded, configured and installed all relevant packages
in order to get my wireless card recognized on my laptop. The card is
now recognized and the module loads at boot time. This is great. But I
cannot seem to get the configuration correct.

Here's my situation:
I need to connect to the wireless LAN on campus. In order to do this,
I must specify the correct ESSID (which is "TigerNet"), enable 128 bit
WEP encryption with either a string or with a hexadecimal value (I
have the correct values for both), and use "infrastructure" mode. This
would be a piece of cake in Windows, but I don't use Windows.

So which configuration file do I need to edit? And once I've edited
the conf file, what commands should I use to get the wireless card up
and running?

I've read all of the documentation on Jean Tourhilles' page. That only
made things more confusing. And using a BSD-like distribution makes
things that much more difficult.

Any help or direction is much appreciated.

Cheers,

Matty-X

assuming you have downloaded and installed the wvlan stuff

have you looked inside /etc/pcmcia/wireless.conf ? if you use webmin there
is a great little third party module that does all this for you

just insert the card and the network should kick in automatically
