Hi All,

In our system(RHEL 4 - 2.6.23.8) VLAN is being stripped off by the
driver(seems to be) wireshark capture doesnt show the VLAN tag. It is
important for our application which is acting as router to receive the
VLAN tags sent by the switch.
It happens only for incoming packets, outgoing packets are properly
left untouched, means tagged properly (tagged by our application). In
some discussion I saw that its related to VLAN hw acceleration being
enabled in the driver, if that is the reason then I still dont know
how to disable that.

Pls help.

Best Regards,
Prasanna.

I can't say I know how to disable that in the driver either.
Particularly since you haven't mentioned _which_ driver you are using
and which version Even then I probably won't know how, but someone
else watching might. Or know if it is not possible at all.

Hi Ricky,

We are using Broadcam Corporation NetXtreme II BCM5708 Gigabit
ethernet card.

On Intel 82571EB giga eth controller this is not a problem VLAN
acceleration is disabled by default, but for us broadcam is the
onboard card we need to disable in that.

Best Regards,
Prasanna.

I asked someone I know at Broadcom. The reply was that presently the
only way to avoid the stripping of the VLAN tags is to disable
management firmware. I was told you can request tools from the link
below to disable the management firmware.
